Sonoma Valley Hospital has signed an agreement to provide surgical services for EmployerDirect, a leader in value-based healthcare for large employers with self-funded medical plans. EmployerDirect is a national organization providing supplemental health care services for self-insured companies with 2,000 or more employees.
EmployerDirect’s SurgeryPlus is a supplemental surgical benefit for self-insured employers that directs employees’ planned medical procedures to pre-qualified, high-quality providers and facilities across the country such as Sonoma Valley Hospital. SurgeryPlus provides care coordination for employees to reduce the stress of the surgical process while improving the ability for employers to manage escalating healthcare costs.
Under the agreement, Sonoma Valley Hospital and its contracted surgeons will provide elective surgeries for companies located in Northern California, Northern Nevada and Southern Oregon. The hospital will provide a range of surgical services that include Urology, GYN, General Surgery, Bariatric (weight loss) and Orthopedic, including total joint replacement.
All hospitals selected for SurgeryPlus must meet high quality standards. EmployerDirect contracts separately with surgeons affiliated with the hospital, and they also must meet high standards.
“Quality of care is very important to us and the companies we work with. We looked at many Bay Area hospitals, including some in San Francisco, and approached Sonoma Valley Hospital because it was one of the few in Northern California to meet all of our criteria,” said Shane Foss, COO of EmployerDirect. “Sonoma Valley Hospital is ranked high for quality of services, safety and patient care. It provides the range of surgical services we require, and does so in an impressive new Surgery Center. It’s also located in a desirable and accessible location for our patients.”
“We were delighted when EmployerDirect approached us,” said Kelly Mather, CEO, Sonoma Valley Hospital. “It’s confirmation of the high quality of care we provide and will have a positive financial impact on the hospital by bringing us surgeries from outside of our area.”
“We understand that one reason EmployerDirect selected our hospital is because they were impressed by our cost efficiency, which results in part from the new cost accounting system we implemented in the past year,” Mather said.
